O Falcão: APED-APEDU, a Ave das Aves do Antigo Egito

  Uma das mais conhecidas aves do antigo Egito era sem dúvida o falcão, até porque ele fazia parte da variegada e muito rica iconografia relacionada com a realeza e com o deus Hórus (entre outras divindades solares e celestiais). Não se sabe hoje ao certo qual seria a espécie utilizada na iconografia entre as várias espécies falcónidas existentes no vale do Nilo, mas a hipótese mais plausível é que se trataria do Falco peregrinus. A sua imagem aparece amiúde na escrita hieroglífica aludindo ao faraó, ele próprio também um falcão sobre a terra, um Hórus vivo.

• Abstract:
  One of the best known birds of ancient Egypt was by far the hawk, because he was part of the variegated and rich iconography related to the royalty and the god Horus (among other solar and celestial deities). It is not known today for sure what are the species used in the iconography of the various existing falconidae species in the Nile Valley, but the most plausible hypothesis could be the Falco peregrinus. His image appears frequently in hieroglyphic writing alluding to the Pharaoh, himself a hawk on earth, a living Horus.
